ACP member offers expert advice to concerned mother in the Guardian

Child psychotherapist Dr Anthony Lee spoke to Annalisa Barbieri in the Guardian weekend section (Saturday 22 August 2015). A mother had contacted the newspaper expressing concerns about her son's behaviour in public places such as a local swimming pool, as he becomes more aware of his growing body.

Lee comments that, children do, usually, have a very clear idea of what to do in a public place and what not to do. But wonders if this particular boy sees the pool as a very safe place rather than a public place. He highlights the importance of understanding reasons behind a child's behaviour and the need to have open conversations in a safe place.
Lee also advises “stepping back from notions of guilt and shame and away from what other people may think and think about it from a more ordinary perspective”. For the full article click here.
